Intelligence.
In the real world.
Laboratory Overview
At Keio University Aoki Media Sensing Laboratory, we conduct research on AI that works effectively in the real world. We consistently handle the entire flow from sensing through images and video — 'seeing' the real world with sensors, 'understanding' it with AI, 'predicting' with world models, and finally 'acting' through robots and machines. We actively advance research in computer vision, pattern recognition, and artificial intelligence systems. Our main research themes include 'Edge AI' using new vision sensors such as event cameras and lightweight AI, 'Physical AI' for understanding and generating human and robot motions, 'Multimodal AI' that integrates images, language, and sound to understand the world, and 'Field AI' delivering these technologies to the fields of space, sports, fashion, and medical care. Our ability to handle everything from sensor principles to actual hardware is a distinctive strength of the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering.
The main protagonists of the laboratory are the students. Our diverse members, including doctoral students, working professionals pursuing doctorates, and international students, actively engage in research autonomously while leveraging their individual creativity and personalities in lively discussions. Based on a spirit of practical learning, we collaborate with companies and universities both domestically and internationally to address real-world challenges, aiming to create new concepts, technologies, and value. Let us together pioneer a future where humans and AI coexist.
